Confirm whether the kitten can enter the destination
Destination and transit authorities determine the entry requirements. Identification, rabies vaccination, waiting periods, certificates and import permissions can affect the earliest lawful travel date.
Within Europe, individual countries may take different positions on certain movements of young animals. Entry from outside the EU is governed by the current EU conditions, so assumptions based on a previous or domestic journey are unsafe.

Build the timeline with the veterinarian
The kitten's veterinarian must assess health and complete or verify the required veterinary steps. Official certificates often have specific validity windows, so completing them too early or too late can disrupt the journey.

Prepare for feline behaviour and handling

Minimum age is not the full decision
USDA guidance for animals covered by its air-transport rules requires dogs and cats to be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned. That does not override a destination's later rabies or import threshold, nor an airline's own acceptance policy.
Health and readiness remain individual veterinary questions even after the formal minimums are met.

Keep official and airline requirements separate
A government may accept a kitten while a particular airline or itinerary does not. Cabin limits, carrier dimensions, connections and seasonal restrictions must be checked independently.

How old must a kitten be to fly internationally?
There is no universal answer. Weaning, veterinary readiness, destination entry rules, rabies timing and airline policy must all be satisfied.
Can two kittens use the same kennel?
Some transport rules may allow two comparable young kittens in one kennel under defined conditions, but airline and route rules must be confirmed before relying on that option.
Can a kitten travel in the cabin?
Sometimes. Cabin acceptance depends on the airline, itinerary, carrier size and the kitten meeting every official entry and transit requirement.
