INTERNATIONAL GALGO TRANSPORT

Flying With a Galgo: International Pet Travel

Long legs, a gentle gaze and a favourite place to stretch out: life with a Galgo has its own rhythm. When an international journey is ahead, thoughtful preparation starts with understanding your dog as an individual.

UniPetrans helps you plan accompanied travel for your Galgo Español, also known as the Spanish Greyhound. We review the route, airline requirements, kennel dimensions and travel documents before proposing a service.

How International Galgo Transport Works

Tell us where your Galgo needs to travel, your preferred dates and a little about their everyday life. We use those details to assess the practical options.

1

Share the journey

Send the departure and destination cities, dates, weight and measurements. Let us know whether your Galgo already lives with you or is joining your household after adoption.

2

Check the travel option

We review airline and route conditions, the size of the kennel and the arrangements for accompanied transport.

3

Prepare the documents

We identify the documents and veterinary steps relevant to the proposed journey. Requirements depend on the origin, destination and circumstances.

4

Prepare for departure

We agree collection, suitable handling equipment and the practical details of check-in and handover.

5

Arrange the reunion

We agree who will receive your Galgo and how the final handover will take place.

Travel options and individual planning

Galgo Travel: Cabin or Hold?

A Galgo’s slim build can make their size easy to underestimate. Long legs, a deep chest and a long body mean that weight alone is not enough to choose a travel kennel.

For an adult Galgo, the planning usually starts with checking whether the airline can accept a suitably sized rigid kennel in the hold as accompanied baggage (AVIH). Acceptance depends on the airline, aircraft, route, kennel dimensions and the combined weight of dog and kennel. We check the proposed arrangement individually.

Accompanied travel means that the accompanying person travels on the same flight. It does not mean that someone stays beside your dog during the flight when they travel in the hold.

Cabin travel (PETC) is only an option when the individual dog, carrier and flight meet the airline’s requirements. We do not assume that an adult Galgo can travel in the cabin because they are light for their height.

Preparing Your Galgo for an International Journey

Some Galgos are quietly observant in unfamiliar places; others approach a new situation with more confidence. Tell us how your dog responds to noise, strangers, handling and time inside a kennel so that we can plan around their actual needs.

  • Measure the whole dog. We need standing height, body length and width, as well as weight. The kennel must allow your dog to stand naturally, turn around and lie comfortably, in line with the applicable airline requirements.
  • Make the kennel familiar. Introduce it gradually before departure, using positive experiences and a routine that suits your dog.
  • Plan secure handling. Tell us which properly fitted collar or harness your Galgo normally uses, particularly if they become startled or try to back out of their equipment.
  • Share relevant history. Let us know about medical needs, previous journeys and any handling difficulties. Your veterinarian should advise on fitness to travel and any medication.
  • Review the paperwork early. Identification, vaccinations and any required certificates or treatments must be checked against the actual journey.
  • Agree collection and reception. Confirm the people involved, contact details and a suitable handover arrangement before travel.

If your Galgo has recently been adopted, explain the ownership and travel arrangements from the start. These circumstances can affect which movement rules and documents apply.

Why UniPetrans

Why Choose UniPetrans for Your Galgo’s Journey?

Room for those long legs

We assess the kennel against your Galgo’s actual measurements and the proposed airline’s conditions. A slender body does not remove the need for adequate height and length.

Preparation that respects their character

You know your dog’s habits best. We ask about their routine and reactions so that collection, handling and handover can be planned with those details in mind.

Clear arrangements before departure

You receive a proposal for the service we can offer on your route, with the agreed scope and practical arrangements. Browse our travel routes or send us your itinerary for an individual assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Galgo Transport: Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Galgo the same as a Greyhound?

The Galgo Español, often called the Spanish Greyhound, is a distinct breed from the English Greyhound. Tell us your dog’s breed and actual measurements rather than choosing a kennel from a generic breed label.

Can my Galgo fly in the cabin?

Only if your individual dog and carrier meet the airline’s cabin conditions on the proposed flight. An adult Galgo’s height and length generally make hold travel the option to assess first. We confirm suitability case by case.

What size kennel does a Galgo need?

There is no single size that fits every Galgo. Your dog must be able to stand naturally, turn around and lie comfortably, and the kennel must meet the airline’s requirements. Send us measurements before buying a kennel or booking a flight.

Can you help a recently adopted Galgo travel abroad?

We can assess whether the journey fits the accompanied service we offer. Tell us who owns the dog, where they are travelling from and to, who will accompany them and which documents are available. Adoption does not automatically determine whether a journey qualifies as non-commercial travel.

My Galgo is nervous in unfamiliar places. What should I tell you?

Describe what unsettles them, how they behave in a kennel and which handling arrangements work for them. Mention any history of escaping from a collar or harness and any veterinary advice. We use this information to assess preparation and handling needs; we cannot promise a stress-free journey.
